The Turks had to wait 8 years for a fellow
country man, Engin Öngel, shows the winner´s trophy of Istanbul high to the paticipants
of the prize giving. Engin Öngel, a lecturer in physics and maths, living in London, beat
Karsten Bolge from Denmark in the final by 25-21. But this wasn´t the only reason for cheers by the Turks. The doubles tournament was also dominated by Turkey. First and second place went to a Turkish team. The Giant Jackpot went to, almost like every year (three out of four!), Jerry Grandell, the backgammon super star from Sweden. |
